Melamine Cleaning Pad

10 awesome home gadgets people rarely use

This list contains 10 domestic gadgets that proved themselves to be unexpectedly useful and enjoyable. I’m not going to list such things as iPhone or Nespresso, since they are widely known, and if someone doesn’t use them it’s for either financial or ideological reasons.

Most of the listed gadgets have been on the market for a while, but still many people don’t know about them or doubt that the purchase will be worth it. So, I’m going to name the things that I’m using and that (in my opinion) are WORTH IT.

The images used, and the links and descriptions are from around the web. But I made this list myself and thought thoroughly about which ones to include.

Melamine Pad, Magic Cleaning Pad

Melamine Pad

The secret behind these types of erasers is a material commonly called melamine foam. With just a little water, melamine foam can dig in and destroy stains that other products can’t touch. It can erase paint stains, grease, limescale, rust and most types of stains you coudld think of.

It’s like good vacuum cleaner, but cordless. It’s also very light (~2kg). Very convenient to use, much like and very recommended.

* If your rooms are spacious, with large surface areas that need regular cleaning, consider Roomba-like robotic vacuums.

Vapor steam cleaner

Karcher steam cleaner

With no chemicals or scrubbing, steam cleaners effortlessly remove stubborn stains and even limescale and mould throughout the home. Nothing could be quicker or easier than cleaning with steam – and it’s also hygienic, killing 99% of bacteria. With low water consumption and no detergent required, steam cleaning not only saves you money but it’s also good for the environment and a healthy choice.

Mini Bluetooth Speaker

Mini N-Cube Portable USB Powered 3.5mm Speakers

The sound is truly powerful for such a tiny device. You can put it anywhere in the room and play and manage the music from a phone on your desk. It plays for hours and then you can recharge it from USD. Also, no wires.

I bought mine in Sainsbury’s. Turned out it was produced especially for this store chain, and there’s no webpage featuring this exact model. But there’re hundreds of similar speakers on Amazon.

There’re also speaker sound docks. They have even better sound quality and don’t require recharge. On the contrary, the device it recharging when docked. Most of the dock stations are tied to Apple products ports and connector (Lightning, etc.) And they are considerably more expensive (from $150)

Smart Washing Machines

Siemens i-Dos Washing Machine

Since it’s a washing machine, it’ll a somewhat pricey anyway. But why it’s better than a regular washing machine?

It automatically decides how much liquid detergent and softener your wash needs – down to the last millilitre, calculates the time of the wash and you only have to press the button. It’s easiest to use washing machine ever. It holds enough detergent and fabric conditioner for around 20 washes so you only need to refill around once a month.

Speaking of laundry, there’re couple of small ‘gadgets’ that are quite useful and can be used in any machine.

1. Laundry Detergent Capsules — just throw one capsule into the washing machine and start the laundry. It’s easy, effective and smells much better then the usual detergent.
2. Laundry Balls — protect clothes from being twisted or tangled together, soften fabrics and help fabrics dry faster.
3. Delicate Laundry Mesh Bag — separates and protects thin and delicates clothing items during the wash cycle.

Scent Diffuser Plug

Scent Diffuser

Eliminates odour and freshens the air. You load a scent cartridge, adjust scent intensity and plug it in. In this exact model the cartridge includes 3 scents that alternate every 45 minutes. Each refill lasts up to 100 days if used 12 hours a day on ‘medium intensity’ setting.

Price: $10 for the plug + $10 per each refill cartridge

Humidity Absorber Device

It absorbs moisture and neutralises odours, helping to combat consendation, damp rooms, allergens in the air, mould and mildew. However, if you live in a low humidity area, it’ll be probably useless. In this case check out humidifiers instead! :)

Price: $12

I’m wondering if I should make a special (but also opinionated) list of “WORTH IT” gadgets that are widely known, such as Nespresso or even iPhone, mentioned above.

Or things widely used by tech related people, but less by anyone else (such as WiFi drive storage).

Let me know in the comments what gadgets changed your life and which ones you found unexpectedly useful!
